Choosing the Right Lenses

We understand if selecting the right contact lenses feels like a daunting task. That’s why we have a team ready to work with you individually.

There are several factors to be considered when choosing contact lenses, and the right choice for you can depend heavily on your eye health, lifestyle, and the level of correction you require.

Who Might Be a Good Fit for Specialty Contact Lenses?

Specialty contact lenses are designed for people who might not be able to wear standard contacts and those who might not enjoy wearing them.

For example, some people have corneal conditions that prevent conventional lenses from sitting comfortably on the surface of their eyes. Others may have eye conditions that make normal contact lenses feel uncomfortable, such as dry eyes.

People who might benefit from specialty contact lenses include those affected by the following conditions:

  • Dry eyes
  • Corneal scarring
  • Strabismus
  • Keratoconus
  • Eye injuries
  • Thin corneas

Types of Specialty Contact Lenses

We’ll tell you if you could benefit from specialty contact lenses based on the results of your contact lens exam. Some of the specialty contact lenses we can fit include RGP lenses, scleral lenses, limbal fit contacts, hybrid lenses, and myopia management lenses.

RGP lenses are made from a special material that helps oxygen reach the surface of your eyes. This helps keep your eyes hydrated and comfortable. These lenses can be a great option for people with dry eyes.

RGP lenses are more rigid than soft lenses, and this helps keep them stable and secure on the eyes, which can help you enjoy sharper vision. They can also help your cornea maintain its shape, which helps minimize the effects of an abnormally shaped cornea.

Limbal contact lenses fall between rigid gas-permeable lenses and scleral varieties in terms of their size. Their larger overall diameter helps to increase their stability on the surface of your eyes. They can also offer minimal interference with the eyelids, which helps support your comfort and vision clarity.

MiSight contact lenses are soft contacts designed for myopia control. These lenses are equipped with dual-focus technology to provide clear distance vision while also slowing the growth of the eye to help control and reduce myopia progression.

Scleral lenses are larger in diameter, with 3 different sizes depending on your specific needs. They are also different in that they vault over the surface of the cornea rather than touching it, leaving a space between the front surface of the eye and the back of the contact lens.

Scleral lenses can be a good choice for those with dry eyes and corneal abnormalities. The space created by the gap between your cornea and the lens can trap moisture to help keep your eyes hydrated, and that space also accommodates many corneal abnormalities, such as the bulge associated with keratoconus.

Hybrid contact lenses are a combination of both soft and gas-permeable contact lenses. The middle part is made from rigid gas-permeable material, helping give the lens greater stability and enhanced clarity for your vision. The RGP portion of the lens also helps to trap moisture between your cornea and the lens so that your eye remains hydrated.

The outer edge of hybrid lenses is a soft lens skirt. This means that you don’t have to deal with the hard edges associated with RGP lenses that may be uncomfortable.
